Beginners Umrah Guide 2027: Step-by-Step Instructions for a Blessed Journey

Visiting the Holy Kaaba and standing before Allah is the ultimate dream of every Muslim. While Hajj is mandatory once in a lifetime for those who can afford it, Umrah is a sunnah that can be performed at any time of the year.

If you are preparing for your first Umrah, here is a simple step-by-step breakdown of the rituals:

  • 1. Intention & Ihram: The journey begins with entering the state of spiritual purity (Ihram) before crossing the Miqat (designated boundary). Make your formal intention (Niyyah) and recite the Talbiyah.
  • 2. Tawaf of the Kaaba: Enter Masjid al-Haram and circumambulate the Holy Kaaba seven times counter-clockwise, starting from the Hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone).
  • 3. Maqam-e-Ibrahim & Zamzam: After completing Tawaf, offer 2 rak’ahs of prayer behind Maqam-e-Ibrahim (or anywhere in the mosque) and drink your fill of holy Zamzam water.
  • 4. Sa’ee between Safa and Marwa: Walk seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa. The walk begins at Safa and ends at Marwa on the seventh lap.
  • 5. Halq or Taqsir (Shaving/Cutting Hair): To leave the state of Ihram, men must shave their heads (Halq) or trim their hair short (Taqsir). Women are required to cut a small portion (about the length of a fingertip) from the end of their hair.

Remember: Umrah is not just a physical journey; it is a spiritual reset. Approach it with humility, patience, and absolute devotion.
